The RI Jobs Training Tax Credit program allows companies to take a tax credit up to $5,000 per employee over a three year period against their state business tax for the retraining or upgrading of their employees.

The credit allows 50% of the actual training cost to be included.

"For profit only" companies may take a tax credit up to $5,000 per employee over a three year period.

Covers training costs and costs affiliated with upgrading employee's skills.

The credit is limited to 50% of the cost of the actual training plus wages.
Prior approval is required.
Medical, legal, accounting, engineering firms are excluded.
Qualified employees must earn less than $80,000 per year, work at least 30 hours a week, work 18 months after completion, and earn at least 150% of minimum wage upon completion.
Excluded are orientation programs, general health programs and seminars/conferences not directly related to employee's job description.
Training must take place within Rhode Island unless training is not available in RI or training is at a lower price out of state.
Up to $1,000 of employee's wages may be included in calculation!
